Postgraduate Diploma in Management and Leadership [Higher Education] (NQF Level 8) – 63PDML

The purpose of this qualification is to produce graduates who can lead project management initiatives at the senior level within an organisation. The minimum duration of the programme is 1 year. Students who complete this qualification will be able to pursue further studies in business, management, project management or a related area of learning, at NQF level 9. This programme equips students with the following skills: project management knowledge competence, performance competence, personal competence, communication, leading project, managing projects, cognitive ability, and professionalism. Students who complete this qualification will be able to fill the following career positions: project, programme and portfolio management in private, public and non-governmental organisations; and operations management positions in project, programme and portfolio management in private, public and non-governmental organisations.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management Programme seeks to recruit suitably qualified students who can benefit from, contributing to, and completing the programme. To be considered for admission to this programme, a prospective student must:

  1. a) Hold a relevant bachelor’s degree at NQF Level 7 from the University of Namibia or any other recognised institution.
  2. b) Demonstrate competency in English communication in business at postgraduate level, as demonstrated by the fact that the undergraduate degree was done in the medium of English. If the undergraduate degree was not done in the medium of English, then the candidate will be required to show competency in the medium of English through achieving at least Band 7 of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or an equivalent test.

Additional Selection Criteria

In the event of too many students qualifying for admission, those with more years of experience in managerial positions will be given priority. Furthermore, the personal essay included on the application will be evaluated using a rubric. An interview may be conducted to select the most outstanding applicants.   On rare occasions for an extremely large group of students, an assessment/test may be administered and those that score higher will be admitted

Students who complete the Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management will be able to pursue further studies in business, management, project management or a related area of learning, at NQF level 9.  For example, graduates of the Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management Programme may register for the level 9 MBA at Namibia Business School where they can choose from five specialisations.

Blended learning conducted through e-learning augmented by face-to-face lessons on a block-Release Basis.

The minimum duration of this programme is one (1) year.

Taught modules will be assessed through formative and summative assessments. On successful completion of taught modules, students are expected to complete a capstone project.  The weighting of the assessment of each project management course shall be as follows:

  • All modules will be assessed through formative and summative assessments. The weighting will be as follows:  15% individual assignments, 15% team assignments and 20% test(s) (taken under examination conditions) and 50% examination.
  • To pass a module, a minimum final mark of 50% is required.
  • The final mark for each module will be calculated using a ratio of 50% CA mark: Exam mark of 50%.
  • Notwithstanding the above, a subminimum of at least 40% will apply to the Exam Mark.
  • To pass the work-based project, the student must obtain a minimum final mark of 50%.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Project Management qualification will be awarded to candidates who have completed the 138 credits at Level 8 as prescribed in the curriculum and have met all the administrative and financial requirements of the University.
